The Institute of Designers in Ireland is the professional body of designers working across disciplines and across the island of Ireland. The Government, clients and professional bodies recognise the IDI as being the national and regional representative body and voice of designers working professionally in industry. The IDI focuses on where it can make a difference: influencing policy, providing a platform for members, and information and helping members to grow their business.
The Institute of Creative Advertising and Design (ICAD) is a non-profit, membership organisation with the aim of supporting creative excellence in Irish advertising and design for those working within the industry. ICAD mission statement informs everything they do – to ‘foster, promote and reward creative excellence in Irish advertising and design’. Founded in 1958, ICAD evolved from an idea conceived of by a small group of visionaries – Jan De Fouw, Ted O’Sullivan, Frank Ryan, Bernard Share, Giles Talbot Kelly, William Bergin, Gerard Doherty and Jarlath Hayes in answer to the issues facing Irish Creatives at the time. Many of these issues remain relevant today.
